Medico-legal Advice Line
Corvelia are pleased to offer our UK and Canadian policyholders, access to a helpful medico-legal advice line, which is run by two of our specialist law firms, Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (UK) and Dolden Wallace Folick LLP (Canada).
The advice line is a complimentary service, whereby a policyholder has the ability to directly contact a solicitor, by picking up their telephone or e-mailing them with any with medico-legal issues. The policyholder can obtain up to 30 minutes of free legal advice, per query, on a wide range of topics, including clinical risk management, contractual liability, data protection and potential liability issues that could impact upon the policy.
The firms can be used as a sounding board for matters such as:
- Complaints, Claim(s) or matters which may trigger cover under this insurance policy
- Investigations against any Employee or the Insured
- Patient consent
- Disclosure of records or information (including via reports or witness statements)
- Confidentiality and data protection issues
- Child protection and vulnerable adult issues (including concerns about sexual and other abuse)
- Public health issues – such as patients or staff with notifiable diseases
- Reporting to any Healthcare Regulators about incidents or individuals or other organisations
- Mental health and mental capacity concerns
- Human Rights Act issues
- Professional obligations and opt-out rights (eg conscientious objection to abortion)
We hope this service will assist our policyholders to make more informed decisions, be able to mitigate exposures and manage any risk’s facing them. This may also have a beneficial effect on a policyholders claims experience.
Please be aware, the use of the legal advice line does not constitute notification to the Policy or disclosure to Underwriters. Should a policyholder consider the matter to be reportable to Corvelia, they should contact their broker to arrange notification.
