Paterson Inquiry Report
04 Feb 2020
The long awaited Independent Inquiry Report into the issues raised by the conduct of disgraced breast surgeon, Ian Paterson, has now been released: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/paterson-inquiry-report
As a specialist MGA offering leading medical malpractice insurance products to both individual practitioners and corporate healthcare providers, it is interesting to note that the inquiry has recommended "that the Government should, as a matter of urgency, reform the current regulation of indemnity products for healthcare professionals, in light of the serious shortcomings identified by the Inquiry, and introduce a nationwide safety net to ensue patients are not disadvantaged."
It remains to be seen as to how the Government will address regulation and the suggested 'safety net' but one thing is for certain, any changes are likely to have a significant impact on the current indemnity offerings by the MDO's as well as Insurers.
